Can you please tell us some background about your store? |
TerraPass was launched in late 2004 by a class at Wharton school of business at Penn university. The idea behind the company is trying to give ordinary people and small companies practical ways to fight global warming.
The original idea was that you could come to the site, calculate your car's "carbon footprint" and then buy one of four different carbon offset SKUs (6,000lbs, 8,000lbs, 12,000lbs and 20,000lbs). Over the last couple of years we've added the ability to calculate your footprint for flights, home energy, weddings, conferences and small businesses. And our e-commerce has changed to permit the selling of any number of pounds or tons of carbon offsets as needed by the customer.

What were you looking for in an online shopping cart system? |
When TerraPass first launched it needed a simple but scalable e-commerce solution that could integrate with the rest of the website functions.

We've found Miva to be endlessly customizable, which has made it a great e-commerce solution for our early growth. With the use of modules we've been able to adapt the standard e-commerce solution to sell per-pound and per-ton carbon offsets as well as a range of products from our green store. The modules have allowed us to make sure that the customer experience is just right for whichever product we're selling.

What do you believe is the greatest advantage of Miva Merchant? |
For me, it has to be the modules. Not many off the shelf e-commerce systems will let you adapt them easily to be able to sell carbon reductions by the pound -- but a $12 module made it straightforward with Miva Merchant.
