Posted by Aura Talbott to Employee Spotlight/Company News on January 16th, 2012

It’s our favorite time of the year again here at Miva Merchant—Miva Merchant Conference time! Our annual conference will be held at the La Jolla Hyatt Regency in San Diego,  CA from March 7-10, and we are looking forward to networking with Miva Merchant storeowners, developers, and our entire Miva Merchant community!

To celebrate our upcoming conference, we are going to be giving away some very cool conference-related prizes, and anyone is eligible to enter to win.  Simply scroll down to the end of this post and tell us either:

  • What you are most looking forward to learning about at this year’s upcoming conference OR
  • What is the most important thing that you have learned at a past Miva Merchant Conference that has helped your business grow?

I’ll be posting up the best responses on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and selecting owners of the best-of-the-best-comments to win!

One-On-One Site Reviews

One of the unique features of our conference that you won’t want to miss out on are our One-On-One Site Reviews. These 15 minute sessions, which are included in the conference admission price, are a great opportunity for Miva Merchant store owners to sit down with one of our expert developers and receive advice and feedback about their online stores.
This is the time to ask all of those questions about your store’s design, and troubleshooting that you’ve been dying to ask.  Signups for time slots will be offered at the conference.

Breakout Sessions

This year, our See Farther theme is all about building more successful ecommerce businesses in 2012.  With this in mind we are offering several different breakout sessions, many of which are taught by our very own Miva Merchant staff.

We are also excited to have industry experts, including SEOMoz founder, Gillian Muessig, and President and CEO of Site Tuners, Tim Ash, teaching breakout sessions at our conference this year.

Networking

Ask anyone what one of the best parts of any conference is, and they’re likely to say “networking.”  Last year was my first Miva Merchant conference, so I can say from personal experience that the opportunity to meet and connect with the Miva Merchant community was a great opportunity to make contacts and connections.

This year, I’m looking forward to meeting store owners, discovering new stores that I can Spotlight in 2012, reconnected with storeowners, developers, and exhibitors that I met last year, and learning all of the new information that I can.

Don’t forget to leave a comment below answering one of these two questions for your chance to win a prize:

  • What you are most looking forward to learning about at this year’s upcoming conference OR
  • What is the most important thing that you have learned at a past Miva Merchant Conference that has helped your business grow?

See you at the conference!  And yes, that is me at the conference last year. Thanks to Leslie Kirk  for the photos!

Your tweet said to share your favorite conference memory, which is a bit different from above - but I already have it in my mind. Remember that year at Mission Beach when there was a big dinner and all the food was an hour or more late? People were grumbling and got up and left early - but our table basically became a bunch of friends and ended up with tons of yummy food once it finally arrived - and it was so worth the wait! It was that night that I met two great people whom I’ve been lucky enough to work with since, and get to see at every conference. One of my favorite times!

Listening to Nathaniel Fick really sticks in my head, very impressive story and a great book I ended up reading. Seeing Rick get his promotion but really just the valuable conversations with absolutely everyone. I learned things last year that have saved me countless hours which was from a friend I met there and not technically conference related.

A couple of years ago one of the guys from Google asked if he could stash his bag under our sponsor table during his presentation. Several of us (jokingly!) discussed the idea of going through his bag to see if there were any secrets to the Google algorithm in there!  We didn’t, but if you ever get Matt Cutts as a speaker, you might warn him to hang onto his bag wink

What am I most looking forward to…I think that would clearly be hanging out with the greater Miva community once again…it’s almost like a Miva Thanksgiving gathering in spring and a lot of them have become good friends! Brainstorming and discussing new possibilities and new features we can integrate and offer to our clients as the platform becomes better each year wink

This might be my first time attending. I’m looking forward to the one on one site review. I am also looking forward to learning more about Miva Merchant.
