Made with Miva: Frames By Devora
For this month’s “Made with Miva” store, we have chosen to highlight a store that is not only conducting successful business online, but is also enriching customers’ lives by gifting them with a new “frame of mind.” Come on a journey with Devora, a determined 28 year old, who was born missing the bridge between both halves of her brain. Devora will show you the importance of community involvement and acceptance of those abled in their own way.
Frames By Devora is a unique business owned by 28-year-old Devora Fisher. Devora was born missing the bridge between both halves of her brain. Devora waves her hands up and down, and she loves tactile objects and music. In an effort to educate others that everyone has the potential to do something and can be a productive member of our society, Devora started painting artisan picture frames using mittens adapted with tactile objects.
Devora’s cliental is of extreme importance in the development and growth, since shaping and changing attitudes about those abled in own can only take root and grow by others seeing the unique capacities that each individual has. People seeing a Frame By Devora always comment on the uniqueness of the frame and, in turn, the educational process grows to another level.
Having a home-based business license gives Devora the opportunity to have diversity in her day, including shopping for the frames she paints, mailing orders out, and being community based by doing everyday things like everyone else, including gardening and cooking with her adapted switches. Devora smiles, laughs, can be loud or quiet, and by being out in the community daily, sets the pace for changing the outlooks of those abled in their own way.
Recognition of individual differences and acceptance no questions asked is what Devora strives to do for all. Frames By Devora is a business geared toward any frame and picture lover. Wherever it is convenient for the pick up of her frames, Devora can be found. “Tail gating” to choose frames at a place convenient to the purchaser engages Devora at times other than designated venues.
Breakfast drop offs are the most exciting when Devora gets the extra chance to interact with special friends that are always there for her. Focusing on customers’ satisfaction with repeat purchasers, getting punch cards for a free frame conveys the message to others that Frames By Devora is a serious business.
Custom colored frames for your picture can readily be done by Devora using her various adapted mittens.
Custom frames can be hand painted for special posters, as well as pictures. Devora enjoys interacting with others whether or not they become customers to further her desires for others to understand greater community integration and acceptance of everyone. Devora is thankful for others coming forth to help those abled in their own way to be included and recognized no different than anyone else. A hand painted artisan Frame By Devora can put you into the right “frame of mind.”
Frames By Devora is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce and is seen in the video above with the Chamber Director. Special occasion frames are well received by many and always elicit positive conversations about those being abled in their own way.
Being community based, Devora is very supportive of organizations by donating both frames for certificates given to other donors as well as proceeds from the sale of her frames. Frames By Devora donates frames to other organizations’ fundraisers to help raise money to make each individual’s life rewarding.
Illinois is 49th in the nation for supporting those like Devora abled in their own way, and still has institutions that are prevalent. Devora painted 181 frames for the closing of the 1st institution in IL last year. Each person leaving Jacksonville for a “new lease on life” received as a gift a Frame By Devora.
The involvement of children and families is a crucial step in acceptance of those able in their own way. Our younger generation is raised with inclusion of all in school and will be the positive change in the future.
Enriching others’ lives by doing specialty frames opens additional doors to communication about those abled in their own way. When a Frame By Devora is purchased and sits on someone’s desk, shelf, or hangs on a wall, it becomes a conversation piece with a true-life story behind it.
Person-centered planning yields to a life no different than anyone else making one’s own daily living choices.
