I’m re-decorating this week’s Store Spotlight with the help of Warehouse Fabrics Inc., a fabric and design supplier from Alabama that boasts an unyielding supply of materials and customer service. Their store’s story is a realization of the American Dream, altered to their liking.
Larry and Betty Whitehead opened their doors in 1984. The store was small: 1000 square feet, filled with fabric and other do-it-yourself (DIY) materials. Over the years, through persistence, customer loyalty and careful planning the store grew tremendously. They’ve moved into a 30,000 square foot building that is stacked wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling with fabrics. In 2001, after 17 years of operating, Warehouse Fabrics Inc.., opened an online store. The combination of the online and physical business has helped the Whitehead’s become one of the biggest and best suppliers of DIY fabrics in the country.

This weekend I was browsing the web, not really looking for anything particular. I bounced from page to page, seeing what was happening in the news, the riots in Iran, blog post piled on blog posts about the new iPhone update. Something I noticed, a cohesive string that bore through the majority of pages, tying the interweb together like a disjointed quilt, was the site author’s utter lack of knowledge. They didn’t understand their own products or posting. Straight-up bad writing and loose examples of authority made them wet magazines. You’ve seen one before, a wet magazine. It’s identifiable, but not comprehensible. The pages mooshed together, the colors running, a product of inundation, virtually, that was these sites.

Online retailers are always looking for ways to boost sales through new marketing & revenue channels. A new school of thought for marketing has been emerging the past several years dubbed Inbound Marketing. The concept is simple, instead of beating a path to prospective customer doors with interruptions (ads) you get prospects to beat a path to your door because of the great information you provide. Admittedly, this is much easier said then done so several of the top marketers in the world have gotten together to offer FREE TRAINING!

Today’s blog post focuses on writing content for your website. We’re going to discuss creating content, the proper techniques for writing it and the benefits of blogging (including improvements that should be made).
Write for the Customer
No one knows your e-commerce store better than you. The content on your site reflects you and your products. Your online store’s success is dependent on the quality of your product and the description on your site. This entails engaging and coherent sentences. When writing for your, site two things should be considered: your product and your customer. Unless you’re Best Buy, you’re not selling six hundred different products. You might have a large quantity of items in stock, but they relate to one another. You’re not selling plasma televisions, dishwashers, video games and DVDs all from the same store. You have a niche and it’s important to play to that. As an example, we’re going to use a second hand book shop as our store
